The Renewal by Andersen Kansas vs Nebraska Border Battle

 

Wichita, Kan. — January 6th, 2009 — The Southard Corporation/Renewal by Andersen, one of the largest home improvement companies in the Midwest, is proud to announce its first annual charitable event, The Kansas vs Nebraska boys and girls high school all-star basketball game for graduating seniors. The games will be held on June 20th 2009 at the new Hartman Arena in Park City, KS. The Southard Corporation is locally owned and operated and the exclusive Renewal by Andersen replacement window dealer for the Kansas and Omaha/Lincoln, Nebraska markets,

 

The benefitting charity that has been selected and partnered with for this event is the V Foundation for Cancer Research. The V Foundation for Cancer Research was founded in 1993 by ESPN and the late Jim Valvano, legendary North Carolina State basketball coach and ESPN commentator. Since 1993, The Foundation has raised more than $70 million to fund cancer research grants nationwide. It awards 100 percent of all new direct cash donations and net proceeds of events directly to cancer research and related programs. ÒWeÕre so excited to partner with such a great foundation that does so much to help fight and research a disease that affects so many familiesÓ said Wes Race Director of Marketing for Renewal by Andersen and Chairman of the event. ÒWe want to have a 1st class showcase for the young athletes in Kansas and Nebraska while at the same time raising money for such a great cause.Ó

 

Wes Race has garnered the help of an advising selection committee that will aid in the selection of the athletes. The Kansas selection committee consists of Joanna Chadwick of the Wichita Eagle sports department, Gene Schinzel sports director of the Hutchinson News and Brent Maycock of the Topeka Capital Journal sports department. The committee to help select the Nebraska teams will be Ryly Jane Hambleton of the Lincoln Journal Star sports department, Stu Pospisil of the Omaha World Herald sports department and Bob Jensen of Huskerland Prep Report. The committeeÕs will help select 12 all-stars for each team along with a head coach and an assistant coach for each of the four teams.

 

A banquet the day before the games on Friday, June 19th, 2009 is being planned to honor the kids and to bring a well known key note speaker to the event. There will be a distinguished key note speaker as well as other speakers at the banquet. The Kansas Sports Hall of Fame is working in conjunction with Race on the banquet. Individual tickets as well as corporate tables will be sold to the public for the banquet.

 

Nike Corporate has accepted to be the official shoe and apparel Company involved with the game.

 

Tickets to the game will be $12 for adults and $8 for students. All profits will be donated to the V Foundation. The girlÕs game tips-off at 5pm and the boys at 7:30pm.
