announced details on how American homeowners can take advantage of the Economic
Stimulus plan signed into law last week by using the new 2009/2010 federal tax
credit to replace their leaky or worn-out windows and doors.
As part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment act of 2009, the legislation
allows for significant federal tax credits for Òqualified energy efficient

Consumers may be eligible for a federal income tax credit of up to $1,500 when they
purchase qualified Andersen and Renewal by Andersen windows used for
remodeling, replacement or home improvement. In addition, those windows
can help a family reduce energy bills by up to 25* percent in the summer and 10
percent in the winter.

To qualify for the tax credit, homeowners just need to follow a few easy steps:
1. Purchase qualifying Andersen or Renewal by Andersen
windows.
Windows must have a U-Factor of 0.30
and lower and a Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) of 0.30 or lower. Homeowners
can determine which products meet the U-factor and SHGC criteria by viewing the

2. Save the sales
receipts and each productÕs performance label
Save this information with tax
documents; qualifying products must be purchased and installed between Jan. 1,
2009 and Dec. 31, 2010.
3. Claim the credit
on 2009 and/or 2010 tax filings.
The new tax credits are for 30% of
the cost of the eligible product up to a a maximum limit of $1,500 combined for
tax years 2009 and 2010 (including other eligible products). The credit is for
the product only, and does not include installation.
