Warm weather will be here before we know it, and you’ll want to open your windows and let in the fresh air! Get a head start on your spring cleaning by preparing your windows for the upcoming season.
We recommend a few simple steps:
- Reseal window edges. The cold, icy weather may have caused your window sealant to crack or fall away. Before the spring showers roll in, make sure to reseal the exterior of your windows with a high-quality polymer such as caulk or silicone.
- Replace damaged screens. Ants, spiders, wasps and mosquitoes will soon be looking for a place to nest, so make sure to clean your insect screens and replace any torn or damaged screens to safely keep bugs and rodents out of your home.
- Clean your windows. Wipe down window frames and clean the glass, both on the inside and outside. View our helpful guides for cleaning each window type.
- Lubricate window hardware. Since windows aren’t used often in the winter, debris can easily settle into the moving parts. After you’ve adequately cleaned your windows, lubricate the hinges and tracks with a silicone-based lubricant for easier operation.
